Wayne's World became such a BIG part of pop-culture. The entire movie is quotable. This is my tribute to that flick. So what do you think of TiTi? She is my version of a female Bugbear(w/ less hair). I got her body painting design from Vaughn Bode. If you aren't familiar with Bode's Cheech Wizard...please start reading immediately! :) So TiTi has a couple of things that seem to be charming our heroes. What could they be and what will happen to the boys next? Check back here soon and please check out this AWESOME pin-up of TiTi by James V. West. His comics Zyn Dweomer & Dungeon Minds are equally AWESOME. Moving right along! I had originally titled #5-Melee(cos I liked the word), but there wasn't any fighting in the strip. I changed the title to Sharp Wit which I think fits it much better. Blueburt's adversary is a BUGBEAR(cousin to the goblin). "HOMEY DON'T PLAY DAT!" In Living Color was a GREAT t.v. show!...Damon Wayans, Jim Carrey, and Jennifer Lopez! The frog and "eye-bat" that you see are my tribute to the eccentric songwriter Daniel Johnston. I love his artwork! If you are not familiar with his music or art...check out his website or watch the documentary about his life. I didn't know if I was going to like it at first because you kinda have to learn how to draw again. I think I've figured it out a little bit...what do you think? Sometimes my lines seem to have that "Charles Schulz" feel to them(close-up of BB panel 2)which is kinda cool. I had this idea that Blueburt would NOT speak(for reasons that will be revealed later in the story). That's why I'm using the "Garfield" thought balloons. I was inspired to use the japanese kanji symbols for BB when I started reading ORC STAIN by James Stokoe(a GREAT comic from IMAGE that I highly recommend). I also wanted Blueburt's ninjaken, japanese for sword, to talk. I'm hoping this makes them a "Dynamic Duo". I decided to make FRED's word balloons YELLOW to set them apart from the other characters. Think of FRED as the soul of a black man trapped in an ancient, japanese sword(anyone seen GHOSTDOG by Jim Jarmusch?). FRED is very much based on my friend of the same name. FRED is NOT a lightsaber! He only produces light as a warning(much like Bilbo's STING from The Hobbit). Lucas probably got the idea for the lightsaber from that book(glowing BLUE sword...sound familiar...yeah). Who is BB's opponent with the axe? This disease has become an epidemic at my workplace. When something important is forgotten...C.R.S. is the culprit!:) Anyway...I've always liked the idea of a basement. That special place where you could get away from the world...UNDERGROUND! Here is where all of the role-playing takes place. "The Dungeon" IS the basement of Roxanne's parent's home. Can anyone guess the HOMAGE in this strip??? Clue..."In The Street". The NEW player that you see is Gary Rayne, Roxanne's dad. He's the one responsible for getting these kids into RPG's. Gary's not really a firefighter...his grandfather was a member of the fire brigade in the early 1900's...that's where the FANCY hat came from. He feels that it puts him into that "warrior" mentality. The "ROUND" table is from King Arthur of course. "We eat ham and jam and SPAM a lot". :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7013642854478350916.post-61294174019110627392010-07-03T13:13:00.001-07:002010-08-10T18:29:07.283-07:00#2-C.R.S.BACK / NEXT
ALRIGHT...the second strip!!! So like I mentioned earlier...the "Real World" is good old BLACK & WHITE. This idea comes from(you've probably already figured it out;p)THE WIZARD OF OZ. After the twister deposits Dorothy's house in OZ, she steps through her front door and and into the "Fantasy World" of FULL-COLOR. The three characters in comic #2 are: Chris Mylark(Blueburt Battleback), Jon James(Novice Dungeon Master/Tattoo Artist), and Roxanne "Xann" Rayne(Ebony Atlas). You'll be seeing Ebony a little later on in the story. Now if you're wondering..."What the hell is C.R.S.???...don't worry...it will be explained in #3. C.R.S. is a running joke where I work. I just had to fit it into the comic somewhere.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7013642854478350916.post-36575936591656274792010-07-03T12:49:00.000-07:002010-08-10T18:25:17.331-07:00#1-The CommentatorsNEXT
The two commentators, CHUCK the WORM & HARRY the WIGHT, are modeled after John Madden & Al Michaels. They will be giving the reader the "play-by-play" of the action that takes place in the RPG. Chuck is a dragon that's trying to quit smoking. Harry is undead and hates the negative stereotypes that are associated with his kind. If you are wondering why the second panel is B&W, the "Real World" is colorless while the "Fantasy World" is in FULL-COLOR! Thanks for reading. Enjoy! :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
